MOM Packaging designed and delivered a medium-speed filling machine for a cosmetics manufacturer in Colombia. Shampoo, conditioner and cosmetic products, up to 1,200 packs per hour, from the very fluid to the very viscous. A project that shows the French manufacturer’s command of a wide range of products and its ability to produce for export.
A project on the Colombian cosmetics market
Colombia is one of the major cosmetics markets in Latin America. Hair care holds an important place there. Local manufacturers invest to automate and secure their filling lines.
It is in this context that MOM Packaging stepped in. The project involved a filling machine for shampoo, conditioner and cosmetic products. An installation representative of what the French manufacturer delivers in more than 60 countries.
The challenge: dosing products from the very fluid to the very viscous
The main difficulty lay in the nature of the products. A single filling machine had to handle very fluid references and very viscous ones. These two behaviours are opposites. A fluid product flows on its own and tends to drip. A thick conditioner resists flow and strings at the end of dosing.
The answer lies in the choice of dosing technology.
Volumetric piston dosing
Volumetric dosing with a mechanical piston covers the whole viscosity range. It displaces a constant volume, whatever the fluidity of the product. It pushes the product with a steady force. A pneumatic system would lose regularity as soon as viscosity increases. The mechanical piston, by contrast, doses a fluid product and a thick one with the same precision.
Controlling foam
Shampoo foams easily. Filled from the top, the product overflows and distorts the level in the bottle. This solution relies on bottom-up filling, using a diving nozzle. The nozzle descends into the pack, then rises as filling progresses. The product stays below its own level. Foam formation is limited and dosing stays stable.
Cleanability and recipe changes
The cosmetics sector multiplies references. Fragrances, colours, formulas: the variants are many. A single filling machine therefore runs several products. The design must make cleaning between two recipes easy. A machine without retention zones empties and rinses faster. Production changeovers become quicker and the risk of mixing drops.
A filling machine suited to medium speed
The filling machine reaches a rate of up to 1,200 packs per hour. This rate meets the needs of a multi-reference cosmetics manufacturer. It offers a good balance between throughput and flexibility. Format and product changes stay simple, without tying up the line for long.
Designed in France, installed internationally
Every MOM machine is designed and built in France, in Villepinte. The manufacturer controls the entire chain, from study to assembly. This integration ensures the consistency of the equipment delivered.
Producing for export adds a requirement. The machine must work the same way in the workshop and on the client’s site, thousands of kilometres away. The Colombian filling machine was studied, assembled and tested in France before shipment. It was then commissioned on the client’s site.
After-sales service that does not stop at borders
Delivering a machine for export does not end with shipment. The client must be able to count on lasting support. For this, MOM relies on remote maintenance.
The SmartConnect by MOM module enables remote monitoring of the equipment. Technicians access the machine through a secure connection. They diagnose, adjust and support the client without travelling. In the vast majority of cases, the intervention is carried out remotely.
For a manufacturer located in Colombia, this remote access shortens response times. It also limits line downtime.
What this project shows
This case highlights three capabilities of the French manufacturer.
- Mastering a wide range of products: dosing with precision from the very fluid to the very viscous, including foaming products.
- Adapting to a multi-reference manufacturer: a medium-speed filling machine designed for frequent recipe changes.
- Producing for export: designing and building in France a machine intended for an international market, with remote support.
MOM Packaging supports manufacturers in more than 60 countries, in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Oceania, the Americas and East Asia. The Colombian project fits fully within this export momentum.
